Featuring in the atrium lobby of this 32 storey hotel the artwork is installed to the face of a heritage brick wall of the adjoining heritage listed building (that also forms part of this development). The artwork theme is the distinct heritage urban patterns of ‘western corridor’ of the CBD retaining the fine grain of the early laneways and warehouse buildings of the original Darling Harbour foreshore and nearby streets. The ‘neon’ lights echo the streetscape patterns of the immediate surrounds of the site, creating an abstract pattern whose content is revealed through adjacent interpretive signage. The ‘neon’ patterns contrast with the remnant advertising mural and the exposed heritage brickwork to create a complex interplay of past and present.
